Pre-Plug-in EraPower Station

The EcoFlow DELTA 2 was the sensible answer to a stupid regulatory situation. The UK wanted to reduce energy bills. Solar panels exist. The wiring regulations said you needed an electrician. So EcoFlow sold an entirely separate electricity ecosystem — solar panel in, battery charged, appliances plugged in directly. No grid interaction whatsoever.

What it actually does

1kWh LFP power station paired with a 220W rigid panel. Self-contained solar charging system. The panel charges the station during the day; you run appliances from the station's AC outputs. Your home meter doesn't register the activity because the product operates entirely outside your home's electrical system.

The honest financial case

At £1,200–£1,500, the DELTA 2 + solar is significantly more expensive than a plug-in kit. Annual saving depends on how many kWh you push through it — if you're disciplined, £100–£150/year. Payback: 8–10 years. Compare that to a £499 plug-in kit saving £156/year with a 3-year payback. The maths have changed.

The verdict

The right product for its era. That era is ending. If you want portable solar that doubles as emergency backup, it's still excellent. For pure bill reduction, plug-in solar has made it largely redundant.
